Do you have the luxury of seeing your family every day or do you live far away from them?
I made the choice recently to move to Richmond, VA so I could be near my daughter and her family which includes my 5-year-old grandson. I know this is not always possible and I feel very blessed to have been able to make this change in my life.
I also changed my work life and have found myself to be working with a wonderful group of professionals that all have the same goal. Helping our clients while enjoying what they do every day. Is it hectic? It is on most days from what I have seen so far, but everyone works together to make sure goals are accomplished while finding needed solutions. The team is empowered to make decisions and move forward. They do all this with their families being a part of their day with phone calls or visits. I overhear discussions of faith and church meetings. As a team they all want to be involved in helping the community or helping others that cannot help themselves in foreign countries. That is the common thread of this group. Yet the business goals are always accomplished. It may be at midnight because of their children’s plays during the day or volunteering at a shelter or other community involvement.
Business is always important, but I have found over the past few years that if you make faith and family your center then your business will follow the lead and thrive. Allowing your team to be themselves and “show you what they got” builds a tremendous network. One you can depend on. One that grows and improves your business and they appreciate the opportunities they have. Balance in life is so important and when it gets out of whack all areas of your life suffer because of it. Take time this holiday season to recognize your team and show them how appreciated they are.
One of my favorite quotes: “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just the first step” – Martin Luther King Jr.
