Your logo is the visual representation of your company. Your logo captures your company’s identity and gives the viewer an insight into what your company is all about. Your logo gives you the chance to connect with customers prior to physically meeting them. Your logo is vital to your company.

Whether you are a start-up company or you are re-thinking the branding of your company, the logo should always be at the forefront of your decisions.

As a designer, I have my own styles and preferences just like you. And I am lucky enough to have the chance to exercise my creativity through logo design – part of the reason why I love my job. When I am brainstorming a new logo for a client, I like to begin with 4 factors to build on:

I’ll start with something that I find is very popular right now – Simplicity. Currently there is a trend of minimalist design, some would say hipster-ish. Clean lines, minimal graphics and sans serif fonts. And to a degree it is the key to a great logo. The goal is to convey a message without becoming busy, or confusing to the viewer.

Next, let’s touch on Color. While it is very important to have some color in there, it is also important to ensure that the selected color (or colors) have some form of relationship with your brand. The chosen color should reflect your company in some way – perhaps your industry, your product or even your mission. Find a connection with that color.

Versatility. By this I mean that your logo should be clear to the eye at any size. Let’s say you’re going to showcase your logo on a big billboard at the side of the Highway – you’re also going to want that logo to be clear when it’s displayed in the top left corner of your mobile website. Balance, and readability is key here and it all really links back to that first factor that I mentioned. Small, fine detail is something I typically avoid.

Finally, Relevancy – Align the logo with an attribute of your company. The logo should be a visual representation of your company, so let’s work together and figure out exactly what emphasizes your company’s purpose.

So as you sit with your favorite mug and drink, have a think about your company’s logo… Does it give you a sense of pride? Does it reflect your thoughts on your company? If not, then give as a call here at High Road. We are always keen to develop every facet of your business.
