Happy New Year! Happy New Career!
This is what was said to me by a well-meaning friend when I announced my recent career move to The High Road Agency.
While I certainly appreciated the sentiment and the spirit in which it was offered, I don’t feel like my recent job change is a new career… but more of an evolvement.
I was “relationship selling” before it was a thing. In college, waiting tables or working retail, when a patron said “I’ll ask for you from now on” that was a thrill. You like me? I like you too! Let’s work together!
When The High Road Agency offered the position of Partner Relationship Manager, it was a natural fit and step in my career. Not a new career. I’m a relationship girl. Always have been.
Almost twenty years in this industry, I’m continuing to look for ways that I can be more for the clients I work with. I want to be the one that solves problems and offers solutions.
My first ten years was spent in the production department, working with clients from conception of ideas to putting them on paper and seeing them come to life in commercial or long form. It was not enough. I missed out on so much between projects! Moving into sales, I’ve spent the last 9 years strategizing plans to meet the client’s goals, but only within the medium I represented. You don’t know what you don’t know, right? How can I be the best consultant for the people I work with if I only know what I knew? Obviously, I needed more.
The High Road Agency is a full-service marketing solutions firm. A fast paced, growing group, what better fit than for me to grow with them?
No, this is not a new career. I look forward to many more years of building relationships, friendships and partnerships in this industry. I’m glad I took The High Road.
